I Am Guilty

“I Am Guilty” is a structured improvisation for percussion and movement by myself and movement artist Rachael Ahn Harbert.

The piece weaves together musical and gestural expressions and articulations of the inner experience of guilt with symbolic external representations associated with ‘shameful’ activity and indulgence. The performers’ theatrical interactions, ranging in overtness from subtle glance to slapstick physical confrontation, overlay an interpersonal dimension to the progression through emotional states.

“I Am Guilty” has been performed at ArtLabJ’s 8th Detroit Dance Race (February 2014), the Mitten Dance Works Showcase (Ypsilanti, May 2014), and Sidewalk Performing Arts Festival’s ‘Sidewalk Jamboree’ (Detroit, September 2014).
